The Age of Awesome is a Warhammer Age of Sigmar blog. I
chose the name because the Age of Sigmar has made fantasy gaming Awesome again
in my honest opinion. On this blog you can expect all sorts of hobby goodness
while I delve deep into the Age of Sigmar; anything from army painting to
battle reports to book release reviews and anything else that I feel is
appropriate including reliving memories of games from hallowed Antiquity.
Let me share a bit about me, since some of you may not know
who I am. I have been going by the screen name Big Jim for at least the past 6
years, I grew up gaming, my father was an avid historical gamer and I followed
suit at a young age. We got into fantasy gaming when my dad brought home
Warhammer 1st edition from a business trip to the UK in around 1983ish.
We were
both hooked with the idea of fighting battles and telling tales in fantastical
worlds. Our early WFB games were very Lord of the Rings inspired as there was
little WFB lore in those days.
I have played every edition of WFB through the years it’s
been one hell of a ride and for the most part thoroughly enjoyable. I remember
the Realms of Chaos books and when Dwarfs first got access to Runes! I have truly
seen it all when it comes to Warhammer!
Warhammer Age of Sigmar has reinvigorated my love of fantasy
battles, it has a retro feel that I have not felt since the early editions of
WFB. The game was much less clinical and more about the telling a story while
having an outstanding time with your friends.
Back in those days almost any wizard could summon demons to
bolster their armies, it was glorious fun creating the story of why the good
guys would call upon such powers to aid them in the plight! There were also the
all hero armies that would fight the valiant last stand against a numerically
superior foe, could the heroes hold the pass long enough to win victory!?!
So won’t you come with me on this journey of memories and
rediscovery as I travel through the Realm Gates of the Age of Sigmar?
